🛡️ Well Doing: Guarding the Tender Heart

Preview

Many tell me I’m kind. A blessing. I mean well. But if you look at the track record of reciprocity, ah, the scales are not really balanced. I’ve been targeted by souls with no hope. They’ve inflicted pain, they’ve shown blatant disrespect, they’ve even wished death. I have enough receipts to walk around wounded—

but I rebuke that victim spirit.

For God did not give me a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). And He always allows me to see the root of a problem without getting stuck in my feelings.

Hopelessness and fear breed evil. Those things make us lash out, inflict pain—because actions mirror the spirit inside. Yet how does a soul survive hardship and stay pure? How do you stop your heart from hardening in a world filled with evil, when it seems that contempt always wins?

The Word of God speaks clearly about well doing and keeping a pure heart:

✨ Do Not Grow Weary in Well Doing

You have to know—you can’t punk out the fight. We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against rulers in high places. They prey on willing souls to carry their schemes. And you are not one of them.

So, know your weapons—for as a man thinks, so is he:

  • “Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9

  • “Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” — 1 Corinthians 15:58

  • “Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” — Hebrews 10:24

  • “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.” — Proverbs 3:27

  • “As we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” — Galatians 6:10

  • “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.” — Romans 12:10

đź’– Keep a Pure Heart

Some days you might want to slap someone. Some days you might want to block. But NEVER allow evil to dwell in your heart—it will rot your bones and corrupt your soul.

  • “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” — Matthew 5:8

  • “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” — Psalm 51:10

  • “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” — Proverbs 4:23

  • “The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.” — 1 Timothy 1:5

  • “Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts.” — James 4:8

  • “Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? … The one who has clean hands and a pure heart.” — Psalm 24:3–4

  • “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” — Ezekiel 36:26

🔑 Protect the Tender Heart

God promises a heart of flesh, not stone. To protect that tender heart:

  • Guard it (Proverbs 4:23) — be mindful of what you let shape your spirit.

  • Stay rooted in love (1 Corinthians 13:4–7) — love is patient, kind, not easily angered.

  • Practice forgiveness (Ephesians 4:32) — bitterness cannot take root where forgiveness flows.

  • Draw near to God daily (James 4:8) — His presence renews your spirit.

  • Trust His justice (Romans 12:19) — evildoers may look strong, but they are fleeting.

  • Choose generosity (2 Corinthians 9:7) — giving refreshes both the giver and the receiver.

Doing good is not weakness—it is reflecting the heart of God. A pure heart is His gift, but also our daily choice to nurture. Evil may roar, but it is temporary; goodness is eternal.

So do not be discouraged in having a tender heart. To be long-suffering is to show every day who you are: a child of God, reflecting His goodness. And if the weight feels too heavy, take comfort in His promise:

“Those enemies you see today, you will never see again.” — Exodus 14:13
