Trust and Obey

“Trust and obey, there’s no other way. To be happy in Christ, you must trust and obey.”

Did you sing that hymn in your head? If you didn’t, then you didn’t grow up in the kind of church I did. But all my folks who did know exactly what I’m talking about. That’s the song the old saints hum when they’re cleaning, when they’re unsure, when they’re heavy, or when they just want to draw a little nearer to God.

Here’s the thing: God doesn’t trust us with all His plan.

I know that’s going to ruffle feathers, so let me say it loudly for the people in the back:

“God does not trust HUMANS with the full blueprint.”

Okay. Sulk, cry, roll your eyes, and then sit your body down and listen.

If you look at Genesis, God created everything first — the heavens, the earth, the animals — and then He created man, and after that, woman. This has always stayed with me. Why did He create us last? We’re creators too. Wouldn’t it make sense for Him to create us early so we could help Him build the world?

But no.

He knew better.

He knew we’d destroy it.

And what was the very first thing we did as soon as we entered the picture?

We broke it.

We introduced sin.

We opened the door to death.

Yes, blame Eve if you want, but Adam is very much to blame too.

Does that mean God doesn’t trust us?

No.

It means He can’t tell us everything because we’ve proven we’re not reliable with His plans.

God doesn’t tell me all His plan. He could — He absolutely could — but He doesn’t, because He knows I’d mess it up. What He does trust me with is perception. That, I can handle. That, I excel at. He doesn’t have to announce what He’s doing. As soon as He moves, because my spiritual eyes stay trained on Him, I shout:

“LORD, You’re doing something new. I see it!”

And that brings Him just as much pleasure as if He had told me the plan Himself.

Him withholding the full picture protects us from the enemy, strengthens our faith, and honestly adds excitement to this life. If you knew everything ahead of time, life would be boring — and you’d be tormented by the things you couldn’t change.

So we trust God because He is built to hold our trust.

We obey Him because He knows the way to a fulfilling life.

When I began building my brand, God never told me everything I’d do with Katiana Writes | A Kat’s Tale. If He had, I might’ve told the wrong soul and gotten hurt. People could’ve discouraged me or hated on me for no reason — remember Joseph.

Instead, He guided me step by step, just as He did with Noah, David, Joseph. None of them got the full picture. They just got enough to move.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105

Not a floodlight.

A lamp.

Just enough for the next step.

So sing that hymn again — knowing that your obedience is the key to your success, your protection, and every assignment God has planned for your life.
