Be Courageous #7

Preview

We are officially approaching the end of the series Be Courageous — and you already know the number 7 is God’s number of completion.

And the verse we’re feasting on today? 2 Timothy 1:7.

Yes… the seventh verse.

WILDDD — the Lord is with US. It’s more beautiful that I got to learn about courage with you.

Part 7 teaches us who we are, and it sets the stage for our faith. Because when we’re in transition — and transition is almost always accompanied by storms — Scripture comes with the same command: “Be courageous.”

Not because the storm disappears…but because God strengthens you to walk through it like a baddie with a Bible.

Courage is your DNA. It is your IDENTITY. Live like it.

And please — don’t forget to buy my book.

This is NOT free gospel, ha!

Your humble servant, Profit-Tess Kati

  • Theme: Courage as Identity

    2 Timothy 1:7 — Courage as Identity

  • Overview of 2 Timothy

2 Timothy is Paul’s final letter before his death. He’s imprisoned in Rome, writing with urgency — passing on everything he has left.

Paul used to persecute Christians… then met the Lord… then wrote most of the New Testament.

This letter is a mantle letter — a father in faith preparing his spiritual son for leadership.

    Paul Instructs Timothy To:

    1. Guard the Gift — 2 Timothy 1:6 “Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.”

    2. . Stand Firm in Truth — 2 Timothy 1:13 “Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.”

    3. Reject Fear — 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

    4. Endure Hardship — 2 Timothy 2:3“ You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.”

    5. Fulfill His Ministry — 2 Timothy 4:5 “But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.”

    6. Remember Who He Is — 2 Timothy 1:5 “When I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also.”

Message: You were built for this. Don’t shrink.

  • Identity = who you are, not who you’re trying to become.

2 Timothy 1:7: “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

Paul isn’t telling Timothy to become courageous. He’s telling him to remember he already is.

Fear is not your inheritance. Fear is not your portion. Fear is not your identity.

Your identity as Christ followers is:

    • Rooted in Power

      • Ephesians 3:20 — “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.”

      • Acts 1:8 — “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Key Message: Strength to act. Strength to build. Strength to speak. Strength to stand.

    • Rooted in God, Not Fear

      • Romans 8:15 — “For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’”

      • 1 John 4:18 — “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.”

      • Psalm 27:1 — “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

      • Isaiah 41:10 — “Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

      • Joshua 1:9 — “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

      • Deuteronomy 31:6 — “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”

      • Hebrews 13:6 —“So we may boldly say: ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?’”

      • Ephesians 3:17–19 — “That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”

      • John 15:9 — “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.”

Key message: A heart anchored in God, not shaken by fear.

    •  Rooted in a Sound Mind

      • Philippians 4:7 — “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

      • Colossians 3:15 — “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.”

Key Message: Clarity. Stability. Self‑control — even in storms.

Courage is not hype. Courage is inheritance.

  • Scripture reveals a pattern: Whenever God shifts leadership or elevates assignment — He commands courage.

Not comfort. Not ease. Not escape. Courage.

Why? Because God doesn’t remove storms — He equips you to walk through them.

    1. Moses → Joshua (Be Courageous #2 VIDEVO)

      1. Joshua 1:6–9 Three times: “Be strong and courageous.” Joshua steps into leadership, responsibility, unknown territory, and a grieving nation. God strengthens the man, not the conditions.

    2. David → Solomon (Be Courageous #3 VIDEVO)

      1. 1 Chronicles 28:20Be strong and of good courage, and do it.” Solomon steps into kingship, construction, national responsibility, and legacy. God doesn’t lighten the load — He commands courage to carry it.

    3. Jesus → The Disciples (Be Courageous #5 VIDEVO)

      1. John 16:33Be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” He doesn’t promise calm seas — He promises overcoming strength.

    4. Paul → Timothy (Be Courageous #7)

      1. 2 Timothy 1:7Fear is not yours.

Same God. Same mantle. Same command.

  • Courage is your identity.

Every transition in Scripture carries the same rhythm: A mantle is passed. A storm is near. And God says, “Be courageous.”

He never promised to remove the waves — only to steady you in them. He never promised to silence every storm — only to strengthen you through it.

You were not built with fear. You were crafted with power, wrapped in love, and anchored by a sound mind.

Step into your next season the way Joshua did, the way Solomon did, the way the disciples did, the way Timothy did —

    with courage as your identity.
