-
Galatians 5:22 — “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, self control…”
Joy is not a mood. Joy is not a vibe. Joy is not a personality type. Joy is a fruit — and fruit has a source.
That source is the Holy Spirit.
-
Joy is:
deep spiritual gladness rooted in God
inner strength
inner stability
inner light
the Holy Spirit’s presence inside you
Joy remains when circumstances shift because it comes from God, not life.
-
The Holy Spirit is a person in the Trinity — not an energy, not a force, not a feeling. He is God’s Spirit living inside of you.
He has a will. He has emotions. He has intelligence. He speaks. He leads. He strengthens. He comforts. He convicts. He produces fruit.
John 14:26 — “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit… will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you.”
He is:
The One who strengthens you
Ephesians 3:16 — “That He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being.”The One who convicts you
John 16:8 — “When He comes, He will convict the world concerning sin…”The One who comforts you
John 14:16 — “And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter…”The One who grows spiritual fruit in you
Galatians 5:22 — “But the fruit of the Spirit is…”
Joy is not something you perform. Joy is something He produces.
-
You don’t manufacture joy. You don’t fake joy. You don’t force joy.
Joy is grown in you by the Holy Spirit. And here’s what that means:
1. Joy is proof of spiritual maturity
James 1:2–4 — “Count it all joy… because the testing of your faith produces endurance.”
Mature believers don’t rejoice because of trials — they rejoice through trials. Why? Because they know God is working.
Joy is the sign that you’re growing up spiritually.
Joy is evidence of the Spirit’s work
Romans 14:17 — “The kingdom of God is… righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.”
Joy is not a personality trait — it’s a Spirit trait. If joy is present, the Holy Spirit is active.
Joy is something cultivated, not performed
John 15:5 — “I am the vine; you are the branches… apart from Me you can do nothing.”
Fruit grows through connection. You don’t perform joy — you stay connected to God, and joy grows naturally.
Joy is a sign you’re rooted, not shaken
Psalm 1:3 — “He is like a tree planted by streams of water… whose leaf does not wither.”
When you’re rooted in God, storms may shake you, but they cannot uproot you. Joy is the evidence that your roots are deep.
Joy is a fruit that feeds you AND others
Proverbs 17:22 — “A joyful heart is good medicine…”
Your joy strengthens you — but it also strengthens the people around you. Joy is nourishment. Joy is medicine. Joy is contagious.
