The Work No One Sees

“A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.”

(Proverbs 14:30, KJV)

Reflection

There’s a kind of peace that settles in your spirit when you’ve built something with your own hands. I love it—the ache of it, the stretch of it. Not because it was easy or painful, but because you know the cost. You know the nights you pushed through, the days you doubted and overthought, the moments you wanted to quit but didn’t.

You know what it feels like to create something out of thin air—to take an idea, breathe on it, and watch it become real.

That’s probably the reason God made me a writer. Because writing forth things as though they were is my forte. I write books. That’s what we do. I design things. I work with great people with gifted hands who also help me bring those designs to life. But this profession does something even more to me that I’m grateful for: it dismisses envy.

I can never be envious.

Not of others.

Not of their success.

Not of their shortcuts.

Envy can’t live in me. Not because I’m perfect, but because I understand the truth: Success has a price. And it has to be paid with integrity.

Some people chase shortcuts. Some people cheat. Some people pretend. And still achieve great success. No envy here. Because I know what they’ll never have—the soul of the work. The authority that comes from building honestly, with clean hands. The quiet confidence that comes from showing up again and again, even when no one is clapping.

And when I see others prospering in ways that don’t look fair, I remember the Word:

“Fret not thyself because of evildoers… for they shall soon be cut down like the grass.” (Psalm 37:1–2, KJV)

Those verses steady me. They remind me that God sees everything—the shortcuts, the motives, the heart posture, the hidden labor. And in the middle of all that effort, God often whispers: “Relax. I’ll give you what you need.”

Not because we’re idle, but because we’re faithful.

Not because we’re lucky, but because we’re aligned.

Not because we’re perfect, but because we’re willing.

Today, let this settle in your spirit:

You are not behind.

You are not overlooked.

You are not empty‑handed.

You are being built as you build.

Your work is seen.

Your discipline is seen.

Your heart is seen.

And God is not unjust—He will not forget the labor you’ve poured into the vision He gave you.

Prayer

God, thank You for the strength to build, even when it’s hard. Thank You for the peace that comes from knowing You provide what I need. Keep my heart free from envy, grounded in gratitude, and anchored in the truth that You are with me in every step of this work. Amen.
